Advocates for a teenage transgender girl detained without charges at Connecticut's women's prison say they're concerned she's been held in isolation for more than a month now.
Supporters of the 16-year-old girl known in court proceedings as Jane Doe say they're worried the isolation will cause more psychological harm. The teen says she has been raped and beaten while in the custody of the Department of Children and Families by relatives and a DCF worker.
A state judge ordered the girl sent to the women's prison in Niantic last month at the request of DCF officials, who said she's too violent for them to handle.
A Correction Department spokesman declined to comment Monday on the girl's confinement.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's spokesman says DCF agrees the youngster should be moved to another setting.
