VT's CCTA Board Asks Union To Reconsider Strike

Chittenden County Transportation Authority Board of Commissioners say they want the bus drivers' union to reconsider an offer for binding arbitration to avoid a strike.

The CCTA board says they voted Friday to request the union to reconsider their decision. CCTA says they haven't received an official confirmation of the Monday strike plans from bus drivers and are also asking for more specific details.

The union rejected CCTA's contract offer Wednesday and voted to authorize a strike. On Thursday, the union turned down CCTA's offer for binding arbitration.

The drivers carry about 9,500 people daily in the state's largest county.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger had urged the union to accept the binding arbitration proposal because he says many residents, including some school children, will face transportation challenges from a strike.
