The Republican candidate in New York’s 18th House District says she is disappointed by a Thursday ruling that lets a ballot mistake stand.
Republican and Conservative candidate Chele Farley says she filed a lawsuit after seeing that one of her opponents was granted a second ballot line erroneously. Scott Smith, who is running on the Serve America Movement line, also appears on the Libertarian line, in error. Both are running against Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney. Farley says that though the state Supreme Court judge acknowledged that Smith should not have appeared on the Libertarian line, it was too late to remove it from the ballot. Farley says Smith agreed in legal documents that he is not entitled to the extra line. In 2018, Farley says the Libertarian candidate for New York governor received 2,983 votes on the line in the 18th Congressional District.
