NY Rep Opens Inquiry Into Withholding WHO Funding
A New York congressman has launched an inquiry into the Trump Administration’s decision to withhold funding from the World Health Organization.
Democratic Congressman Eliot Engel, who chairs the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, has written to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, labeling the decision a political distraction from the Administration’s own response to the coronavirus global pandemic. Engel demanded that the State Department produce records and information dealing with the decision to halt funding. Engel, of the 16th District, says attacking the WHO, rather than the COVID-19 outbreak, will only worsen an already dire situation by undermining one of the key tools to fight the spreading disease.
