Orange County DA Heads Up Investigation Into Police-Involved Shooting

The Orange County district attorney will lead an investigation in Thursday’s police-involved shooting in Port Jervis.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler and Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden announced Friday the protocols that will be used in the investigation of an incident during which two Port Jervis police officers fatally shot a 47-year-old man. Hoovler says police officers responded to an emergency call reporting an emotionally disturbed person with a knife inside a residence on Railroad Avenue. He says an initial investigation suggests that the man refused to put down the knife; one officer unsuccessfully tased the man, who was then shot. Hoovler says his office will conduct two parallel investigations – one before an Orange County grand jury, and the second from within the DA’s office.
