The man convicted in the beating death of an elderly shop owner in Orange County has been sentenced.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler says 30-year-old Dennis McBee, of Port Jervis, was sentenced to the maximum allowed — 25 years-to-life in prison for second-degree murder. McBee was convicted in March in the November 2014 beating death of 77-year-old Josef Kucher, who owned Kucher’s Shoe Repair on Front Street in Port Jervis. Kucher, an Austrian immigrant who owned the store for 40 years, was well-known in the community. Prosecutors say McBee beat, stomped on and robbed Kucher before fleeing to nearby Pennsylvania. McBee also was sentenced to one and one-third to four years for Tampering with Physical Evidence along with concurrent sentences for other charges.
