Westchester County Executive George Latimer has named a county legislator as the director of the Department of Consumer Protection.

Latimer, a Democrat, name Republican Jim Maisano of New Rochelle as the new director.

“He brings to this position his generic intelligence and ability, specific knowledge of the law and a legislative record that’s exemplary,” Latimer says.

Maisano, an attorney, vacates his seat after 21 years.

“And it was incredible that George reached across party lines to show that really the most important thing is the county of Westchester,” says Maisano.

Maisano begins his post as Consumer Protection Department director on February 26. The Board of Legislators will decide when to hold a special election to fill Maisano’s seat.
