Members of the General Assembly's Regulation Review Committee are meeting to consider proposed regulations that spell out the details of Connecticut's new medical marijuana program.

The bipartisan panel was scheduled to vote this morning on the wide-ranging regulations crafted by the Department of Consumer Protection, including how the marijuana dispensaries will operate, the proper disposal of unused marijuana, and rules for how the program's marijuana producers will be selected, among other issues.

Lawmakers passed legislation in 2012 that created the medical marijuana program.

After first recommending the committee reject the regulations, legislative attorneys are now recommending that they be approved after reviewing revisions made by Consumer Protection officials.

However, some members of the committee said they remain concerned that the marijuana program will be at odds with federal drug laws.
