A 2.2 magnitude earthquake shook some communities in the Hudson Valley Wednesday morning, including the home of a New York congressman.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake registered at 6:14 Wednesday morning in the Lake Mohegan area. Residents in Northern Westchester and Putnam County communities posted on social media saying they felt the minor quake. During Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’s telephone town hall Wednesday morning, a constituent asked whether he knew about the earthquake. Here’s Maloney.
“Well I heard about it from my family in Cold Spring who felt it and they thought maybe the boiler blew up or something,” Maloney says. “There was a loud noise (woman on phone laughs) I’m serious. They said there was a loud noise and they felt the whole house shake.”
A report from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory’s says the quake, which occurred about 5 miles southeast of West Point, was felt in Peekskill. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
