Dutchess County Executive Will Not Run For Governor

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said Thursday that he will not run for New York governor. WAMC’s Allison Dunne has more on the latest Republican to back away from the race.

Molinaro issued a statement on social media saying that after much discussion, contemplation, and prayer, he has decided that at this time he will not be a Republican candidate for governor. State Asssembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb was the first Republican to officially toss his hat into the ring. Prior to Kolb’s December announcement, he and Molinaro had discussed the possibility of forming a ticket. Businessman Harry Wilson, considered by many to have the best shot against Governor Andrew Cuomo, recently announced he would not run. Meantime, former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra officially entered the race. Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino was also considered a likely candidate before his November defeat.
