NY Congressman's Bill On PFOA/PFOS Study Set To Be Law

WAMC, Allison Dunne

Legislation from a Hudson Valley congressman to require the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study health effects of PFOS and PFOA exposure is headed to President Donald Trump’s desk.

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney says his “Investing in Testing Act,” which was originally introduced in 2016, passed the House Tuesday and Senate Thursday as part of the defense bill. The legislation requires the CDC to conduct a comprehensive study into the long-term health effects of PFOS and PFOA exposure. Maloney’s 18th District includes the City of Newburgh, which has been addressing PFOS drinking water contamination since May of 2016.  The legislation is expected to be signed into law by President Trump as early as next week.
