Police Investigate Possible Hate Crime In Rockland

Police are investigating a possible bias crime in Rockland County after incendiary devices went off outside two rabbis’ homes Tuesday night.

Clarkstown police are investigating the incidents in New City. Rockland County Executive Ed Day called for an aggressive investigation and condemned what he called an apparent hate crime. Day says that Commissioner of Human Rights Penny Jennings learned through an email Wednesday afternoon of the incident that involved incendiary devices, possibly firecrackers, being set off at two homes where rabbis live. Jennings has announced that she will convene a meeting of the county’s Interfaith Council, which was formed to foster greater understanding among the diverse groups that call Rockland home.
