Heroin Case In Newburgh Includes 24 Indictments

The Orange County district attorney has announced indictments in a heroin distribution case in Newburgh.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced on Monday that an Orange County grand jury has indicted 24 defendants in connection with “Operation Punch-Out” in the City of Newburgh June 7. The 68-count indictment alleges that 36-year-old Earl Melvin, a/k/a “Bugs,” was the director of a controlled substance organization that distributed heroin within the city and surrounding areas from at least June 2015 through June of this year. The indictment charges Melvin with felony Operating as a Major Trafficker, among other charges. Newburgh Boxing Club owner Ray Rivera is alleged to be one of the co-conspirators.
