NY Congresswoman Urges Full Emergency Funding To Combat Zika

A New York congresswoman is calling for her colleagues to approve federal funds to combat the Zika virus.

Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee Nita Lowey supports approving the $1.9 billion in emergency funds requested by President Obama’s Administration to address the potential spread of Zika in the U.S.

“I am strongly urging House and Senate leadership to take action immediately on this urgent matter,” says Lowey. “No woman should have to fear that her child may be born with severe birth defects that could rob its chance at a long and healthy life.”

The bulk of the funding would support such efforts by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as monitoring mosquito populations and implementing health infrastructure to detect and respond to any outbreak.
