Kingston, Ulster County Test For Lead In Drinking Water

Tim Graham

One day after results from a test of drinking water at Ulster County facilities showed elevated levels of lead, Kingston officials released their own results.

Kingston Mayor Steve Noble and the Kingston Water Department say no lead has been detected in the city’s water source or in its water distribution system, as has been the case since testing began in 1993. The water department also shared results of water samples from a number of residential homes in the city, which showed either no lead or levels far below the Environmental Protection Agency’s action level. In addition, the Kingston City School District says recent water test results show its water is clean and safe to drink. Meanwhile, results shared Monday from proactive testing in Ulster County facilities turned up elevated levels of lead in 20 of 29 water samples taken from 26 locations.
