Legislation to help communities revitalize blighted properties has passed the U.S. Senate and now two House members want to see it on their floor for a vote.
The U.S. Senate Wednesday passed the Brownfields Reauthorization Act, a bipartisan bill sponsored in the House by Connecticut Democratic Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty and New York Republican Congressman Chris Gibson. The Senate passed the bill as part of a larger legislative package. The Brownfields Reauthorization Act is intended to help communities revitalize and remediate “brownfields” – abandoned, often contaminated former industrial properties. Following the Senate’s passage of the measure, Esty and Gibson called on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to take up the bill so that it can receive a vote on the House floor.
