A college in Newburgh that has been in the headlines for controversial administration and board decisions has named an acting president.

Mount Saint Mary College’s Board of Trustees Wednesday announced that James Raimo, vice president for facilities and operations, will become the Mount’s acting president effective April 16. He will hold this position until an interim or permanent president is appointed. Raimo steps in after President Dr. Anne Carson Daly, citing serious family-related issues, announced she will step down April 15. Raimo has been with the college since 1997. Over the past year, some faculty members, students, and community supporters have questioned the direction of the college, alleging instances of the suppression of freedom of expression.
