Assemblywoman Didi Barrett (D-Hudson), who had toyed with running for the 19th District congressional seat in the fall election, announced Friday she will instead seek another term in the state legislature.
Barrett said she is “honored and humbled” to have been wooed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, constituents and colleagues to run for Congress. But she has decided to seek another term in the Assembly.
“I cherish my current role in the New York State Assembly and love my beautiful Hudson Valley Assembly District,” Barrett said. “I am proud of what we have accomplished already in a short time and I know there is much more still to be done for our region and for New York State. “My focus will remain on my work in the Assembly and delivering results for my constituents this legislative session.”
Barrett currently represents the 106th Assembly District, the first time the district is represented by a Democrat and a woman.
