Ex-Spring Valley Mayor Sentenced To Four Years

Facebook

The former mayor of a suburban New York village has been sentenced to four years in prison for taking bribes. Noramie Jasmin was mayor of Spring Valley when an FBI operative, posing as a developer, gave her $5,000 and a 50 percent stake in a project.

Federal Judge Colleen McMahon told Jasmin on Friday that she had violated the trust of her constituents, especially young women seeking a role model.

Jasmin's attorney said he's appealing the conviction.

Jasmin ran for re-election in 2013 while she was under indictment and was defeated.

The trial included audio and video tapes of Jasmin dealing with undercover FBI agents.

Jasmin's case was part of a larger corruption investigation that also resulted in the conviction of former Democratic state Sen. Malcolm Smith.
