Supporters Of Proposed Nevele Casino Push For Reconsideration

Nevele Resort, Casino & Spa

The developers behind a failed bid for a casino in Ulster County want to be included if a New York state board reopens the bidding process for a fourth license.

Investors behind the Nevele Resort, Casino & Spa in Wawarsing wrote to the state's Gaming Commission Tuesday asking to submit a proposal. The Gaming Facility Location Board is slated to vote Tuesday evening on whether to reopen the bidding for a fourth casino — but the board's chairman has said only applications from the Southern Tier would be considered. In December, the board recommended three casinos, one each for the Catskills, Schenectady and Finger Lakes. Two Southern Tier proposals were rejected and the board withheld a fourth available license. After local leaders objected, Governor Andrew Cuomo called on the board to reopen the bidding for the Southern Tier. In the Catskills, a casino proposed for Sullivan County was selected. The Roundout Valley Business Association is circulating emails, calling on recipients to phone, fax, e-mail or tweet the governor to press for a fourth license for the Nevele.
