County Execs Support Equipping NY Police Cars With Bulletproof Glass

A few Hudson Valley county executives are weighing in about the planned introduction of state legislation to retrofit all police vehicles in New York with bulletproof glass.

Two state senators and two assemblymembers, including Republican Jim Tedisco, say they are drafting legislation after two New York City police officers were gunned down in their car over the weekend. Republican Rockland County Executive Ed Day, now retired from the New York City Police Department, likes the idea.

“Anything that would enhance officer safety would be a positive thing,” says Day. “I remember I was one of the first cops to get bulletproof vests back in 1979, when I got out of the Academy.”

Here’s Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino responding to retrofitting the windows.

“Sure, why not, absolutely, I think that makes sense,” says Astorino. “Anything that will help protect our police officers I think is a commonsense thing.”
