A former longtime congressman has endorsed a fellow Democrat in the race for New York’s 19th congressional district.
Former Congressman Maurice Hinchey has endorsed Democrat Sean Eldridge in the race against incumbent Republican Congressman Chris Gibson. Hinchey’s endorsement comes in the form of an open letter to voters, in which he cites Eldridge’s commitment to growing jobs and protecting communities from fracking and corporate polluters. Meanwhile, the Seniors for Gibson Coalition was launched Friday in Athens, in Greene County. Eldridge and Gibson will participate in a candidate forum on sustainability October 1 at the State University of New York at New Paltz from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., hosted by SUNY New Paltz and the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund.
