Elected officials in Ulster County along with area residents will partake in a rally Tuesday morning to celebrate the completion of an application for the county’s only proposed casino.
The rally is to celebrate the completion of a 10,000-page application to be filed with the New York State Gaming Commission by the June 30 deadline. The application is from Nevele Investors, who propose the $640 million Nevele Resort, Casino & Spa in Wawarsing, at the site of the famed Catskills resort that once drew more than 100,000 visitors a year. A New Jersey couple who spent their 1965 honeymoon at the resort will be given a key to the new Nevele, inviting them to celebrate their 50th anniversary at the groundbreaking and their 51st anniversary as guests. A Nevele spokeswoman says she expect more than 100 area residents and other supporters to attend, along with local elected officials, including Ulster County Executive Mike Hein.
