South African MP To Lecture At Bard College

A South African member of parliament is joining a college in the Hudson Valley as a senior visiting fellow.

Wilmot James, South African Member of Parliament for the Democratic Alliance, has been appointed senior visiting fellow at the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and the Humanities at Bard College. James will be in residence at the Annandale-on-Hudson-based college in April 2015, and will offer a series of lectures on topics ranging from evolution to ethical considerations in the use of genetic information to South African politics and history. He will also work with the Hannah Arendt Center to host a weeklong working group on current politics in South Africa.  James has held visiting positions at other schools, including Yale University and the California Institute of Technology. He is a former trustee of the New York–based Ford Foundation.
