One of the first performers at a certain Hudson Valley venue that opened in the 1970s returns Sunday – at a new location.
The Towne Crier Café, which recently opened in Beacon, will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the group The Weavers with a benefit concert. The Weavers at 65 will feature Weavers member and folk legend Pete Seeger. Seeger, a Beacon resident, was one of the first performers at the Towne Crier when it opened in Beekman in 1972. In fact, a six-foot-wide portrait of Seeger hangs in the dining room of the new location. This month marks 65 years since the Weavers' first public performance and to commemorate this, The Towne Crier is presenting an evening with Work O' The Weavers, Pete Seeger and other special guests, benefiting the Beacon Sloop Club's work in maintaining and restoring its environmental education vessel, the Hudson River sloop Woody Guthrie.
