There will be a ribbon-cutting event late Saturday morning for a park in New York’s Putnam County. The park is at a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Poughkeepsie-based environmental group Scenic Hudson along with several partners will celebrate the opening of the $3.6 million park at the West Point Foundry Preserve in Cold Spring. The park is reopening after a 15-month construction initiative to create an outdoor educational destination within the 87-acre property. The park’s new interpretive features tell stories of the foundry’s contributions to the Industrial Revolution and its role in the Civil War - the foundry manufactured cannons credited in winning the war. The new park features gathering areas, native plantings, stabilized historic ruins and a trail connecting to the Metro-North train station at Cold Spring. The ribbon cutting also will debut a Web-based audiovisual tour. Representatives from New York State, Putnam County, and the Village of Cold Spring are expected to be on hand.
