NY Veterans Counseling Program Expands

Office of NYS Senator Greg Ball

A number of state and local elected officials will be on hand in New York’s Hudson Valley this afternoon to announce the expansion of a veterans counseling program.

They will join together in Westchester County’s Ossining with members of veterans groups to announce the expansion of the Private First Class Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Counseling Program to the Hudson Valley. The Dwyer Program provides such counseling among veterans who personally understand the effect of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Since the program’s inception in last year’s budget, the program has been operating in four test counties: Jefferson, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Suffolk. The program was funded in the recently passed 2013-14 state budget not only to continue in these counties, but to expand to seven others – Erie, Nassau, Onandaga, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester.
