Westchester Increases Security After Boston Explosions

At least one county executive in New York’s Hudson Valley says security was stepped up Monday as a result of the bombings at the Boston Marathon. And security will remain heightened through at least today.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says the county is on a heightened level of readiness, and that he ordered county police to take a number of precautionary actions, including the deployment of the Aviation Unit helicopter to conduct aerial surveillance of critical infrastructure, and the Marine Unit to do the same along the Hudson River. Bomb dogs were conducting sweeps of county buildings including the county courthouse. Police presence was increased at areas such as the Kensico Dam and other vital locations. Security was also stepped up at Westchester County Airport.
