In New York, Orange County officials say more than 300 unwanted or illegal weapons were turned in during a recent gun buyback program.
County officials announced Wednesday that 342 weapons were turned in during the county’s third gun buyback program, called “Save a Life”, which ran from January 18 through March 18. During this time, individuals had an opportunity to turn in illegal or unwanted firearms, in exchange for up to $150 in gift cards, no questions asked, at police departments in Newburgh, Middletown and Port Jervis, as well as at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, in Goshen. The county held two previous gun buyback programs, one in 2007 when 198 firearms were turned in, and another in in 2010, when 217 guns were collected.
