NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — A New York City-based construction company has been awarded a $93 million contract to rebuild a span on one of the state-owned bridges in the Hudson Valley.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that the New York State Bridge Authority awarded the contract to Kiska Construction of Queens through the New York Works program. The company will rebuild the deck of the south span of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge connecting Orange and Dutchess counties. About 25 million vehicles cross the bridge each year. State officials say the construction project is expected to create at least 200 jobs. Work will begin this spring. The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge is one of five spans operated by the Bridge Authority. The others are the Mid-Hudson, Bear Mountain, Kingston-Rhinebeck, and Rip Van Winkle bridges.
