Rocket attacks by militant Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza on Israel have prompted area police agencies to keep an extra sharp eye out.
Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois wanted to be sure the unrest in the Middle East doesn’t spill over to the Mid-Hudson Valley.
“I put out something real early when that first started to escalate over there for our people to have a heightened awareness, whether it be a synagogue or a mosque, our transportation hubs, train stations, bus stations, and the Counter Terrorism Zone followed that same day; everybody had their radar up,” DuBois said.
Westchester County Board of Legislators’ Chairman Kenneth Jenkins on Monday reaffirmed his support for Israel as it defends itself.
“I strongly condemn the Hamas rocket attacks aimed at the people of Israel,” Jenkins said. “This escalation of violence is the work of cowards trying to subvert please in the Middle East and should not be tolerated by world leaders.”
Jenkins said he “fully supports Israel’s right to defend its people against these rockets and any other acts of terrorism.”
The Westchester Jewish Council will be holding A Night of Solidarity with Israel this evening (Tuesday) at Temple Israel Center in White Plains beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Rockland County Legislator Ilan Schoenberger will introduce a resolution shortly in support of the right of Israel to defend itself against attacks by Hamas and Palestinian militant groups.
