Material Shift showcases work by 13 Haudenosaunee artists who employ found objects and other unconventional materials to create or illustrate traditional cultural objects or concepts and those who, conversely, explore traditional materials in unexpected ways. Works range from playful to provocative. These events are made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Institute of Museum & Library Services, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and friends and members of the Iroquois Museum. Nova Linea Contemporary Dance is Wisconsinβs premier contemporary dance company. Known for their emotionally-provocative performances, it is Nova Lineaβs mission to provide accessible and relatable stories through dance to the communities it performs for. Through a physically expressive movement style, Nova Linea aims to guide audiences through compelling stories, themes, and emotions, provoking thought and reflection.In this evening of dance, Nova Linea will present some wounds never heal. Choreographed by Artistic Director Jared Baker, this piece delves into the emotional landscape of loss. Exploring the depth of human emotion, some wounds never heal examines how grief shapes and changes us, posing profound questions: How do we pic ourselves back up and continue moving forward? How do these life-altering events leave their mark on us, both physically and emotionally? This piece not only reflects personal pain, but also emphasizes the importance of community, compassion, and empathy in the healing process. It highlights how shared experiences of loss can forge deeper connections between individuals, fostering a collective resilience. This moving performance invites the audience to engage with their own experiences of grief and to find solace in the understanding and support of others.

This class is intended for students who have already taken an introductory etching course and are interested in taking their work to the next level with advanced techniques both traditional and experimental. This class will include hardground and aquatint while learning about working back into your plate to develop tonal depth through the expertise of printmaker Ezra Heller. Other methods such as chine collΓ© and intaglio tusche washes will be decided upon through discussion in class.
