Memorial service held for fallen K9 officer slain in Herkimer shootout

A fallen K9 officer memorialized - WKTV reports that a memorial service was held on Monday for Ape, the FBI dog killed in last Thursday's shootout with Kurt Myers in Herkimer.  The Czech German Shepherd protected his human handler when lawmen decided to enter the former Glory Days bar on North Main Street. After Ape was shot, authorities returned fire, killing Myers.

Ape began serving with the FBI on February 25, 2013 after successfully completing training last October. The agency says "he will be missed" - Ape was buried in Quantico, Virgina
