A young Albany man who became a symbol for the Raise The Age initiative suffers another setback.

Marquis Dixon was arrested last Thursday, charged with petit larceny and forgery for allegedly using a counterfeit 20 dollar bill to buy ice cream. He was arraigned Friday before Albany city court Judge Joshua Farrell. He was released and ordered to appear at a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Dixon served three and half years of a 4-12 year prison sentence for stealing a pair of sneakers when he was 17. He inspired social media hashtag #ReleaseMarquis and also is associated with the #RaiseTheAge movement. Since his release from prison and having been granted youthful offender status, Dixon reportedly violated parole twice.

Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
