Police Officers Who Killed Woodchuck Suspended

Two Rensselaer police officers will not go unpunished for killing a woodchuck on a Troy golf course.

The City Board of Public Safety decided to suspend officers Mark Spath and Tyler Sammon for 30 days. The Times Union says the pair had been on paid administrative leave since July 29th, the day they woodchuck was run down and killed at Frear Park Golf Course in Troy.

Investigations by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Troy P.D. found a "lack of evidence," resulting in no charges against the officers. Rensselaer Mayor Dan Dwyer tells the paper that the officers were suspended based on their failure to report the incident to superiors.
