Albany's Tulip Festival Begins Friday

The region’s rite of spring, Albany’s Tulip Festival, begins Friday, May 6, and runs through Sunday. To once again celebrate Albany’s Dutch heritage, the City planted 140,000 tulips and 40,000 other spring bulbs – about 85,000 tulips in Washington Park alone, the largest concentration of tulips on the East Coast.

The event, in its 68th year, is filled with tradition, including:

  • The ritual street scrubbing on Friday at noon at State and Lodge Streets;
  • The crowning of the Tulip Queen and Court on Saturday at noon at the Lakehouse;
  • The crowning of the 2016 Mother of the Year Sunday at noon at the Lakehouse;
  • Top local and national bands all weekend long;
  • Nearly 100 regional craft vendors, dozens of food vendors, a fine arts show, a green market, and a Kidzone.

For more information about music, schedules, locations, parking, and more, call 434-2032 until Friday at 4:30 or visit www.albanyevents.org anytime.
