Albany, NY – In today's Academic Minute, Paul Siegel of Purchase College explains how facing your fears can help you overcome them, even if you don't know you are facing them.
Paul Siegel is assistant professor of psychology at Purchase College, State University of New York. His translational research program focuses on non-conscious processes in phobias, and alters the standard treatment of phobias that involves prolonged exposure to feared stimuli. Siegel's primary research program is testing the hypothesis that exposure without full conscious awareness can reduce fearful behavior. He holds a Ph.D. from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University.
