Albany, NY – In today's Academic Minute, Dr. John Stauffer of Harvard University examines the enduring cultural importance of The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

John Stauffer is professor of English and American Literature and African American Studies, and Chair of the History of American Civilization program at Harvard University. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and in 1999 received the Ralph Henry Gabriel Prize for the best dissertation in American Studies. In 2008 he published the award-winning, Giants: The Parallel Lives of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.
