His most celebrated works include the Book of Daniel, inspired by the story of Julius and Ethel Rosenburgh, Ragtime, and City of God.
Among many others, Doctorow has received the National Book Award, the Edith Wharton Citation for Fiction, and the presidentially-conferred National Humanities Medal.
Recently Doctorow delivered a keynote address during Western New England College's Lecture Dlay. As a Memorial Day special, WAMC presents his speech, "Religion and literature: Texts that are sacred, and texts that are not."
