Northeast Students To Join National School Walkout

wikipedia.org

Students in the Northeast are planning to take part in the National School Walkout.

Students at local high schools in New York, Connecticut and Vermont are pledging participation in at least three national student walkouts planned this spring, staring March 14th with a 17-minute protest in silence, in memory of the 17 students and teachers killed in the February 14th mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida.   HudsonValley360.com reports students at Catskill High say they will join the movement, calling on Congress to pass tighter gun control laws.

Students also pledged to march on Washington March 24th. Another national school walkout is in the works for April 20, the anniversary of the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999.

Dave Lucas is WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief. Born and raised in Albany, he’s been involved in nearly every aspect of local radio since 1981. Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
