David Sweat appears for sentencing 2-3-16

David Sweat, the surviving convict who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility last June, setting off a 23-day manhunt, spoke at his sentencing on Wednesday. Already facing life in prison without parole on a previous murder conviction, Sweat was sentenced to up to another seven years.

"I would like to apologize to the community and the people who felt the fear and felt it necessary to leave their homes or their community because of the escape. That was never my intent, and I deeply apologize for that, your honor," Sweat said.

Sweat, along with Richard Matt, escaped from the maximum security prison in Dannemora last June. Matt was killed and Sweat captured after being wounded, bringing to close a three-week search.
