The surviving convict who escaped from the Clinton Correctional facility last June will not face charges in Franklin County for crimes he committed there while on the lam.
David Sweat and Richard Matt escaped from the maximum security prison in northern New York in early June. Matt was killed and Sweat recaptured after a three week manhunt.
Sweat will be sentenced on Wednesday February 3rd in Clinton County Court on escape charges.
The Plattsburgh Press Republican reports that the Franklin County District Attorney has decided not to pursue any charges saying prosecuting Sweat “...would not be a good use of Franklin County taxpayer money…” because he is already serving a life sentence.
