SUNY Graduate Slain In South Korea

#StoryOfSunny

News is just reaching many New Yorkers that a recent University at Albany graduate was killed in Asia.

25-year old  Kim Sun-jung, better known as Sunny Kim, died in early May. The 2011 UAlbany grad had majored in economics and returned to take a prestigious job in her home country South Korea.  Media there reports her 24-year old boyfriend, identified as "Lee,"  turned himself in May 16th, telling authorities he killed Kim after she ended their relationship.

Lee had assumed Kim's identity for several weeks by hijacking her social media a accounts and email. Kim’s family said they didn’t realize she was dead because Lee was responding to their text messages on Kim’s phone. Her body was found packed in a suitcase buried in cement on a remote mountainside.

Kim regularly kept in touch with her friends in the United States. She was a member of  UAlbany’s Kappa Phi Lambda Upsilon sorority chapter.

A GoFundMe accountwas set up to help Kim's parents with burial expenses.
