The White House says about 12,000 civilians who work for the defense department in New York would be furloughed and funding for the operation of Army bases in the state would be cut by $108 million.
The state's schools and teachers are also at serious risk, as are efforts to protect clean air and water.
Massachusetts could lose tens of millions of dollars for education, environmental protection and child care, about $14 million for primary and secondary education, putting 190 teacher and aide jobs at risk.
In Vermont the military could see some of the biggest reductions, along with about $1.1 million in funding cuts for primary and secondary education and $1.4 million dollars for about for about 30 teachers, aides and staff who help children with disabilities.
Connecticut could lose about $8.7 million for primary and secondary education, which, the White House says could risk about 120 teacher and aide jobs.
Connecticut also would lose about $2 million for clean water and air quality programs and to prevent pollution from pesticides and hazardous waste.
And about 3,ooo civilian defense workers would be furloughed, reducing gross pay by $15 million. The White House compiled the numbers from federal agencies and its own budget office.
The numbers are based on the $85 billion in cuts that are set to take affect Friday.
