Well the Rangers have forced a Game 7…
Last night in Ottawa, Boston College rookie Chris Kreider scored that goal on the power play, capping a three-goal second period, as the Rangers staved off elimination with a 3-2 win over the Senators. Sound courtesy of MSG. The series returns to Madison Square Garden for Game 7 Thursday night.
In Chicago, Mike Smith made 39 saves and the Coyotes scored three times in the final period to finish off the Blackhawks 4-zip. Phoenix advances to take on Nashville in the second round.
To the NBA, San Antonio captured the top spot in the West with a 124-89 rout of Portland, Philadelphia is playoff-bound following its 105-87 win over New Jersey, Milwaukee topped Toronto 92-86, Memphis beat Cleveland 109-101, Indiana dropped Detroit 103-97, and Washington handed Charlotte its 21st straight loss 101-73.
To the NFL… where there’s more trouble for the Saints. An ESPN report released Monday alleges that general manager Mickey Loomis' booth in the Superdome was wired so he could listen to opposing coaches' radio communications during games. Loomis would have been able to eavesdrop on opponents from 2002 to 2004. The system was apparently disabled in 2005. Saints spokesman Greg Bensel has called the report "1,000 percent false."
To baseball, in the American League, an A-Bomb from A-Rod helped power the Yankees over Texas 7-4, Toronto downed Kansas City 4-1, Cody Ross homered twice to lift Boston over Minnesota 6-5, and the White Sox blanked Oakland 4-0 behind a Jake Peavy gem.
Over to the NL, San Francisco swept a doubleheader from the Mets 6-1 and 7-2, the Cubs rallied to beat St. Louis 3-2, Milwaukee held off Houston 6-5, Arizona worked over Philadelphia 9-5, the Dodgers dumped Atlanta 7-2, and the Rockies-Pirates contest was washed out.
In other baseball news, the prosecution has made its opening statement in the Roger Clemens perjury trial, attempting to portray the former Red Sox and Yankees pitcher as a man who told lies and “other lies to cover up lies.” Clemens is accused of lying to Congress in 2008, when he testified that he never took steroids or human growth hormone.
