CT Governor Proposes $12M Investment into Early Childhood Education

Hartford, CT – Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy has proposed investing 12 million dollars to improve and expand access to early childhood education across the state. WAMC's Lucas Willard reports...

The Democratic governor has identified having more early childhood services as one of his priorities for the upcoming legislative session that he wants to see focused largely on education reform.

The proposal announced Thursday would dedicate money to creating opportunities for 500 preschool children. It would boost professional development and create a system to allow parents to access information on early childhood education programs.

Connecticut lost out on its bid for a $50 million "Race to the Top" federal grant last year. State officials have said that will not derail their plans to improve preschool programs and overhaul the way they are rated.
