New Hampshire Considers Making Gun Licenses Optional

Concord, NH – New Hampshire could become the fourth state to eliminate the need for a permit to carry concealed, loaded guns anyplace not prohibited by law under legislation before the House and Senate. WAMC's Pat Bradley reports...

The House could vote as early as this week on a bill to make the permits optional so gun owners could travel to states with reciprocal permit agreements. It also would increase from four to five years the length of time a permit is valid. The bill also would make it legal to transport unlicensed guns.

The House passed a similar bill last session, but the Senate postponed action on it until this year.

The bills would not change exemptions in the law, such as for felons carrying weapons.
Vermont, Arizona and Alaska don't require a permit.
