Hartford, CT – With the final day of scheduled contract talks between nearly 2,000 Hartford and New Haven building cleaners on tap, Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging both sides to avoid a strike. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...

The Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ, is scheduled to meet today with the Hartford Area Cleaning Contractors Association. The current contract expires Sunday.

The workers voted last week to allow their bargaining committee to call a strike, if necessary.

Malloy on Tuesday urged both sides to come to the table with an open mind. He said a strike has the potential to disrupt the lives of the workers and those who work in the buildings they clean.

Those buildings include the state Capitol, the Travelers Tower in Hartford and New Haven City Hall.
