Irene Cleanup Expected to Cost Vermont Nearly $100M

Montpelier, VT – Cleaning up from Tropical Storm Irene is expected to cost the state of Vermont a bit less than $100 million. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more...

Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding said Monday that the state's cost is expected to be about $88 million under a best-case scenario, and about $99 million under a worse-case scenario.

Total costs including those picked up by the federal government are expected to range from $487 million to about $572 million.

Both scenarios reflect good news the state got last month, when congress lifted caps on federal reimbursements for road repairs under the Federal Highway Administration's emergency relief program.

There was concern earlier that the state's costs could reach $240 million.
