Boston, MA – A court order barring the city of Boston from evicting Occupy Boston protesters from a downtown tent city will remain in effect for at least two weeks. WAMC's Paul Tuthill reports...
After a lengthy hearing Thursday, Superior Court Judge Frances McIntyre said she would rule by December 15th on whether to permanently bar Boston City officials from shutting down the Occupy encampment without prior court approval.
The city says it needs the power to act swiftly if there are public safety issues, but Boston's Mayor has said there are no immediate plans to force the protesters to leave their camp in the financial district.
Boston's fire marshal testified that there are almost uncountable fire safety violations at the camp. A protester testified that the group has done its best to comply with fire codes.
